The Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association-Colorado is an independent organization affiliated with world organizations, the Japan Karate Association (JKA), and the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA). We are a non-political organization that offers several programs for the advancement of karate-educating children and adults in traditional Karate-Do.

This organization is dedicated to the development of Karate-Do, a true Japanese art, founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi, a Shotokan style based on discipline, self control, etiquette, respect, and humility. These maxims are achieved through the Japanese philosophy, physical training and mental awareness reinforcement.

The Funahoshi Shotokan Karate Association-Colorado has over 3,000 students in Germany, Holland, Switzerland and in the USA. These affiliate dojos are under the auspices of John Bolosan, 6th Dan, Chief Instructor, JSKA since 1974. Most recently, a new dojo in Croughton, England (GB).

The instruction taught in Shotokan include: physical conditioning, self-defense, and philosophy by combining the principles of the JKA, FSKA and the JSKA teaching methods. Using these standards and principles has provided a purpose and direction (Do) for all beginner and serious student (karateka) seeking to better themselves and to perpetuate the art of Shotokan Karate-Do.

This art has many other benefits to offer within its training programs:
  • Confidence
  • Discipline
  • Self defense
  • Self control
  • Physical fitness
  • Competition
  • Stress management
  • Self motivation

Since we are a non-profit organization, we do not hold our members to so called contracts. Therefore, your training and membership fees are tax deductable. The reason for this is that our instructors are continuously promoting the art of Karate for the purpose of education. Instructors who have no real knowledge or ability are forced to use contracts because their students soon discover that the instructor lacks knowledge and would leave if not bound by their signatures. Since we do not advertise, we depend on members to promote our karate among their friends and bring them to observe classes, so they will understand karate better and perhaps become members themselves.
